Eucalyptus is traditionally grown in Australia and is otherwise known as the 'Australian Gum Tree'. It grows up to and above an imposing 100ft in height. The tree has white papery bark and long pale pointed leaves, which grow between 6-12 inches in length.

There are many different varieties of Eucalyptus which dominate the Australian flora. The cool, camphorous aromas come from varieties such as Eucalyptus Globulus, E. Polybractrea, E. Dumosa and E. Radiata. Where as E. Maculata and E. Citriodora boast a more citrus aroma.

  Cautions
 

Eucalyptus is a very powerful oil, so care must be taken with it's use as it can be irritating to sensitive skin and mucous membrane if too high a dose is given.

THIS OIL SHOULD BE AVOIDED BY PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND EPILEPTICS.

Eucalyptus oil may also interfere with homeopathic medication.

  • Mind

    Is said to have a cooling effect upon the emotions. Also aids concentration and promotes logical thought.

  • Body

    • Respiratory - Perhaps best known for it's use as a decongestant, this oil can be used to ease sinus problems, colds and bronchitis as well as clearing hay fever congestion.

    • Circulation - Is said to purify the blood and stimulate circulation.

    • Muscles - Reputed to relieve muscular and rheumatic aches and pains.

    • Skin - When used as a compress, is said to ease ulcers and to help heal wounds as well as easing insect bites.

    • Urinary - Reputed to help ease Cystitis and fluid retention.
