Lime originates from Asia and is now grown in many warm countries such as Italy and the |Americas. It was reputedly brought into Europe by the Moors and then taken to America by the Spanish and Portuguese explorers around the 16th Century. The ships which carried Limes were nicknamed 'Lime Juicers' as the crew relied upon it to prevent Scurvy - a dietary deficiency causing general weakness.
