Properties
Latin Name Citrus Aurantium Var Amara
Plant Type Orange Tree
Part Used Blossom Petals

Yin or Yang Yin
Aroma Floral

The Orange tree originally comes from China though Neroli Oil generally comes from France, Morocco, Portugal and Italy. The white petals from the Seville Orange Tree is said to produce the best Neroli Oil.

The name of the oil is said to originate from an Italian Princess, Anne-Marie, Countess of Neroli, who frequently used this oil as a perfume and as fragrance for her bath water.

Neroli is a particularily expensive essential oil because it takes a vast amount of petals to make a teaspoon of oil. Take care when buying Neroli as it is often adulterated with Petitgrain oil which is made from the leaves and twigs of the same plant. See our links page for details of reputable essential oil suppliers.
