Aromatherapy and caring are inseparable, and aromatherapy goes hand in hand with massage. Touch is vital to every human being, how many times has someone giving you a hug made a world of difference? The need for this type of communication continues throughout our entire lives.

The term 'holistic' means 'the whole person'. When used in relation to massage and aromatherapy, it is not a stylish new term, but a natural part of the treatment. We are all people with lives and many facets to our personalities. None of these can be seen in isolation because it takes all of them to make up who we are. We must see everyone as an individual and take everything about them into account.

Massage is a great way to get to know someone and develop and new depth of bond based on honesty and trust. There is no room for the numerous psychological games that people play. Massage decreases feelings of isolation and opens communication between two people. It is unfortunate that in the world we live in, some people are crying out for just that.

It is important that the person receiving the massage is encouraged to relax and enjoy the experience. It is amazing how many people find this difficult. I have found that soothing music can help such a person to relax. Make sure that if you buy a 'new age' type of music that you listen to it first. Some of the music can be depressing or just annoying! The person who is giving the massage should be calm relaxed concentrating all their physical and mental energy on the recipient.

Some people are uncomfortable with casual touching. When massaging such a person, the treatment must be formal with an allocated time. It is also helpful to tell the recipient what part of the body you are going to touch before you do so as a sign of respect for their personal space. Most often, this type of person will start to relax after they have had a few massages.

In today's society, many people often feel isolated and alone. This creates a barrier to communication and compounds feelings of isolation and despair. Massage can help remove these psychological barriers, which in turn can release emotions and help restore the mind and spirit to a state of balance.
